Some national organizations, like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)[1] in the USA and American College of Emergency Phycisians (ACEP)[2] in the USA, are of interest to maritime physicians all over the world. The Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) assists the cruise ship industry to prevent and control the introduction, transmission, and spread of gastrointestinal (GI) illnesses on cruise ships. VSP operates under the authority of the Public Health Service Act (42 U.S.C. Section 264 Quarantine and Inspection Regulations to Control Communicable Diseases).

Some research institutes, like the Seafarers International Research Centre (SIRC)[3] in the UK or the Central Institute of Occupational Medicine and Maritime Medicine, Germany, the Interdepartmental Institute of Maritime and Tropical Medicine (IIMTM)[4], Poland, The University of Western Brittany (UBO)[5], France, the University of Tarragona[6], Spain, the "Ukrainian Research Institute for Medicine of Transport, Odessa, Ukraine and Centro Internazionale Radio Medico (C.I.R.M.)[7], Italy, just to mention a few, are important even at the international arena. It is beyond the scope of this chapter to mention them all, although they are of importance to the fields of maritime medicine and maritime health.
